Career Day at Fowler Middle School

 Fowler Middle School

19 November 2013

It is hard to believe it is mid-November already.  This year has flown by for us at LazyPaw Animal Hospitals  , and it is high time for a bit of a breather.  On Tuesday, November 19, 2013 I had the distinct honor of representing my  business and my profession for the 3rd consecutive year to the fabulous students of Fowler Middle School.  Fowler is a model representative of our Frisco Independent School District.  One of my favorite stops, what a great place from which to kick off the career day season!

Our school liaison, Ms. Andrea Williams, expertly manages every year to put together an A+ group of Frisco professionals to present their careers, handle all participants’ requests and somehow manages to check in with us each personally several times throughout the day. She is a prime example of the talent FISD has attracted to educate our children.

Many people have asked us why LazyPaw Animal Hospitals continues to participate in career days year after year. “Isn’t it a lot of work?”, “What kind of reward do you see from this?” and “Isn’t it just an opportunity to sneak away from work to have a “free” lunch?” are commonly fielded questions.  For us, it is an opportunity to share with youth, their instructors and, through the students, their family members what we are personally passionate about.  In a brief 25 to 35 minute session, we have the remarkable opportunity to show others, through the sharing of our experiences, what it is that we do. This ‘behind the scenes’ exposure may generate interest in a field of study students never considered for themselves, or possibly never even knew existed.  This is a chance to show them a taste of what veterinary medicine is all about and its numerous applications to them.  We feel we are making a powerful and a positive impact for the betterment of our community. This is the reason why we do it.
