National Animal Shelter and Rescue Appreciation Week

Every year during the first full week of November, The Humane Society of the United States (The HSUS) celebrates National Animal Shelter and Rescue Appreciation week. This week is a great opportunity to honor animal shelters and all of those who work hard to protect animals in our communities.

Lazy Paw Vet would like to encourage everyone in the area to partake in the celebration this week! We would like to honor our local shelter, Collin County Animal Services, for their dedication in providing a safe place for animals, and a great place for families to adopt a lifelong friend.

Below are a few ways you can participate in the celebration this week.

Take time to say “thank you” Did you rescue your pet? If so, take the time to thank your shelter, and let them know how much you appreciate them. They will love to hear how your pet is doing after being adopted, and how much they have impacted your life.

Volunteer or donate You may not be ready to adopt a pet into your home, but volunteering your time at a local animal shelter will make an impact. Shelters are always looking for extra hands to help out. Whether you are walking the dogs or helping with the marketing aspect, your time is much appreciated. If you can’t find time to volunteer, donating supplies like toys and linens will be a huge help. Animal fostering is another huge way to support your local shelter, as this allows them to take in more pets.

Show support on social media Social media has an amazing impact in our communities. “Like” your local animal shelters on Facebook to show your support, and “share” photos to help spread the word to others that may be ready to adopt a family pet.

Take care of your pet The most important thing you can do to show your support for your local shelter is to take care of your own furry friends. Make sure to keep collars and identification tags on your pets at all times, or talk to your veterinarian about getting your pet micro chipped. Consider neutering and spaying your pets, and always keep a close eye on them when they are outdoors. These tasks alone will make the jobs of rescuers and shelters much easier.

Contact your Frisco veterinarian for more ways to support your local shelter or to find an adoption event near you. LazyPaw would love to point you in the right direction!
