Petiquette 101

LazyPaw Animal Hospitals is kicking off a new blog series called “Petiquette,” which will explore the do’s and don’ts of interacting with animals, hosting visitors at your home, and taking Fido or Fifi on the road to visit others.

Everyone knows the obvious petiquette rules. For example: Don’t let your dog bark for hours, don’t let dogs wander off-leash, keep pet vaccinations current, and pick up after your dog in the park. However, LazyPaw’s series is going to scratch a little deeper into common situations and issues that come up for pet parents and pet lovers everywhere.

The Petiquette collection will include:

How to introduce yourself to dogs and cats
How to say “no” to people petting your dog
How to introduce children to dogs and cats
How to bring your dog to a store or restaurant
Petiquette for hosting human visitors at home
Park Petiquette
Why you should train your dog or take them to a professional trainer
How to bring your pet with you to visit a friend’s home

As we get ready to launch the series, we want to remind pet lovers everywhere to make sure their animal is current on all dog vaccinations, cat vaccinations, and other vital annual vet services.

Ideally, pet owners should also take care of dog neutering, dog spaying, cat neutering, and cat spaying with the animal surgeons at their local animal hospital. Nothing breaches petiquette like an unvaccinated animal that spreads illness, or a pet play date that results in unplanned kittens or puppies!
