Position Summary

The Principal Engineering Drafter is responsible for preparing technical drawings and plans. This role arranges the complete documentation package for Engineers, ensuring accuracy before production begins.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Actively learns & applies JMC CAD standards when producing plans.
  • Produces and edits CAD base files under the supervision of designer(s).
  • Works with fellow drafter(s) to accomplish CAD production tasks.
  • Assists in the production of exhibits & thematic maps.
  • Utilizes the employee “Daily Digest” to provide team with daily tasks.
  • Ensures that designer(s), project engineer(s), and manager(s) have the help they need meeting project deadlines and other daily tasks.
  • Works closely with the designer(s) on CAD tasks and plan production.
  • Utilizes the designer(s) for continued design education.
  • Utilizes the designer(s) for task management.
  • Performs check-ins as necessary to fellow drafters.
  • Attends meetings & discussions with designer(s) & project engineer(s) as necessary.
  • Relays proper meeting & discussion information to fellow drafter(s).

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Possesses basic knowledge & skill of CAD principles & concepts in local civil engineering design/construction document production.
  • Possesses basic understanding of local agency design standards & guidelines and/or how to acquire said standards & guidelines.
  • Can demonstrate adequate application of acquired knowledge & skill.
  • Possesses basic understanding of horizontal & vertical datums in CAD/GIS.
  • Possesses basic knowledge & skill in programs such as:
    • AutoCAD Civil 3D or Bentley MicroStation or CAD Equivalent
    • Bluebeam REVU
    • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Possesses basic knowledge of civil plans & their phases such as:
    • Conceptual/Preliminary, Final Design
    • Offsite/Onsite, Public/Private, Grading & Drainage, Water, Sewer, Storm Drain, Paving, SWPPP
  • Possesses basic oral & written communication skills.

Position Summary

The Principal Project Engineering Manager is responsible for analyzing and coordinating the schedule, timeline, procurement, staffing, and budget of engineering projects. This role will also guide the work of project engineers and designers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Uses extensive knowledge and educated judgment to complete complex tasks.
  • Acts as project lead and point-of-contact between client and local agencies.
  • Possesses substantial ability to determine project constraints(s) for client (agency guidelines, flood protection, soil protection, adjacent property hazards, etc.).
  • Applies & administers the use of JMC Engineering standards across all projects.
  • Acts as lead QA/QC for project deliverables (plans, reports, CAD base files, etc.).
  • Creates, manages, and oversees the engineering design methods and best practices of the project that complies with local guidelines as necessary.
  • Mentors/oversees fellow project engineers(s) and designer(s) for engineering and design tasks.
  • Utilizes the employee “Daily Digest” to provide team with daily tasks.
  • Tracks project deadlines and ensures fellow project engineer(s) and designer(s) are informed of their expectations in an appropriate timeframe.
  • Modifies scope and requests additional funds for professional services as necessary.
  • Works closely with the senior engineer(s) and manager(s) on project objectives.
  • Utilizes the senior engineer(s) and manager(s) for continued management education, as well as design & task management.
  • Performs check-ins as necessary with fellow project engineer(s) and designers.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Possesses substantial knowledge and skill of engineering, design, and construction standards and principles.
  • Possesses substantial knowledge of local agency entitlements processes and associated applications and checklists.
  • Possesses substantial knowledge & skill in programs such as:
    • AutoCAD Civil 3D or Bentley MicroStation or CAD Equivalent
    • Bentley WaterCAD, SewerCAD, StormCAD
    • Bluebeam REVU
    • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Possesses substantial knowledge of complex engineering constraints such as:
    • Floodzones, regional or offsite flows, utility providers, existing infrastructure, etc.
  • Possesses substantial knowledge & skill to create and manipulate models such as:
    • Grading, Hydrology, Hydraulics, Water, Sewer, Earthworks, etc.
  • Possesses substantial skill to manage the production of engineering reports such as:
    • Drainage, Water, Sewer
